Man when did the Senate go on vacation...

When did they go on vacation and when can we have the old Senate I remember with a long history of top political intellectuals. Also, why does it take the news media almost 2 weeks to pick up on something as concrete as this. Sad truth is that I doubt have the Senators, media, and American public know what the problem was if it was staring at them in the face.

What am I talking about?

I hate to annoy my readers by bringing up that horrendous Senate Immigration bill but this is just incredible. In the bill there was a movement for all illegals to have to pay back taxes to the IRS to become eligible for the temporary guest worker program. The problem with this is that the bill is making a movement to collect revenue or tax. It is unconstitutional for the Senate to write a bill that collects revenue; They must come from the House. This is the problem that Congress will face before the joint conference committee.

First take a look at this article that tells you how the leadership of both parties view this...

Illegals' tax deal could kill bill - by Charles hurt

Most supporters believe this will kill the bill. Frist says the simple solution is to add it to a tax bill that has already passed the Senate. Reid of course says that he will not allow this because the concerns of Frist about the bill are
"technical in nature." Now what he really is saying is that he knows that a "blue-slip" will be offered by a House member which will send the bill back to the Senate. Why? because it's the House's job to uphold the Constitution. Reid knows this would make the Republicans look unfit to run the Congress.

Nice try Mr. Reid but please...that is busch league.

The bill will most likely die which in my opinion is good. I thought the bill was horrible as mentioned in an early post. I think it will die because I believe that conservatives in the House and the majority leader are in touch with the American public. They cannot introduce a bill that is an shadow amnesty bill.

Another thing that bothers me about this recent discover is the fact that this was another action that flew under the radar of the media. Honestly, I think it was done intentionally to pass a stealth provision to the bill. Well it definitely worked for awhile. At least well enough to pass by the 100 Senators. Thank the lord the members in the House analyzed this bill and caught the problem before conference committee.

Check out Robert Novak's article on the provision.
