The Media Leak Contest Has Begun!

Being involved in politics, you nose becomes trained to smell Bullsh#% from a mile away.

This time it involves CNN accidentally receiving access to the audio of a conversation private conversation between Condi Rice and Russian Ambassador Lavrov about Iraq.

Oh but here's the kicker....CNN accidentally covered it because of course it became news and they accidentally broadcasted the conversation.

Click here to see the video and news coverage
(my source - Hot Air)

So is this a contest now? That is what it seems like to me with the major news organizations. They have forgot that their job is to educate the nation's public and instead they would rather be Sherlock Holmes of politics.

But honestly, who accidentally gets access to audio of a private conversation between two diplomats?

Smells of vodka to me.

Senate Wasting No Time...

[Hat Tip: Hot Air]

Bills are being introduced in the Senate in response to the Supreme Courts hearing on whether trials could be held against prisoners in gitmo. Though, I am still very disappointed in the Senate's "handling" of the immigration issues, this does make up for a little.

Senator Specter has already introduced a bill that would authorize military tribunals and set certain due process guidelines. Also, Senator Frist should be introducing a bill next week. Hearings for Specter's bill will start on July 11th and both John Warner and Carl Levin say the Armed Services Committee will hold hearings on procedural requirements with the intentions to pass legislation in September.

For more check out the blog post here on Hot Air

Sounds like the debate will center on whether the Gitmo gang should be entitled to full courts-martial or some lesser specie of military hearing. The difference is the extent to which the government can present classified info as evidence without letting the defendant see it. Pelosi and Feingold doubtless will demand the full court-martial enchilada, which is fine by me: if they want to argue that terrorists are entitled to the same procedural benefits as U.S. soldiers with a midterm election coming up, so much the better.

Seems like the pedal is to the metal now in the Senate. I still wonder where this vigor was when the issue of immigration came up?

New York Times Controversy...

I'm not completely sure of my feelings in reaction to the NY Times release of a classified government program that monitored suspected terrorist bank accounts.

However, here is a great video that does make you think...It also highlights my point in a previous post about as time passes on people forget their reaction to attacks and want to go back to being on defense against terrorism.

Never Again? We must stay on the offensive against our enemies to ensure that another tragedy does not strike our soil.

Supreme Court Protects Al Qaeda Members

AP Photo - The Former Body Guard of Osama bin Laden.
I have no sympathy for this man.

The Supreme Court ruled that trials on Gitmo prisoners was against American law and International Geneva conventions...That the President overstepped his authority...

Here's the AP article...

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that President Bush overstepped his authority in ordering military war crimes trials for Guantanamo Bay detainees.

The ruling, a rebuke to the administration and its aggressive anti- terror policies, was written by Justice John Paul Stevens, who said the proposed trials were illegal under U.S. law and international Geneva conventions.

The case focused on Salim Ahmed Hamdan, a Yemeni who worked as a bodyguard and driver for Osama bin Laden. Hamdan, 36, has spent four years in the U.S. prison in Cuba. He faces a single count of conspiring against U.S. citizens from 1996 to November 2001.

Two years ago, the court rejected Bush's claim to have the authority to seize and detain terrorism suspects and indefinitely deny them access to courts or lawyers. In this follow-up case, the justices focused solely on the issue of trials for some of the men.

The Prison commander says the ruling will have little impact on the everday running of Gitmo.

GUANTANAMO BAY U.S. NAVAL BASE (Reuters) - A U.S. Supreme Court ruling on war crimes tribunals being held at Guantanamo navy base will have little effect on the detention camp that holds 450 foreign captives, the camp commander said.

"I don't think there's any direct outcome on our detention operation," Rear Adm. Harry Harris, the prison commander, said in an interview this week.

The high court upheld on Thursday a Guantanamo defendant's challenge to President George W. Bush's power to create the military tribunals to try suspected al Qaeda conspirators and Taliban supporters after the September 11 attacks.

Harris said he would build a second courtroom if the tribunals are allowed to proceed but little else would change because the court was not asked to rule on Guantanamo itself, a prison camp that human rights groups, the United Nations and foreign governments have sharply criticized.

This is a thin line that the Supreme Court is walking on. It is a very big stretch of interpretation to say that under the Geneva Convention, a terrorist group such as Al Qaeda, is protected.

Al Qaeda mutilates and be-heads are soldiers every chance they get. It's disturbing that our Supreme Court will not even put these monsters on trial.

Immigration - The disconnect between elites and the American public

Great post on Michelle Malkin's new immigration blog...

ELITES WANT U.S.-MEXICO MERGER — HENCE THE FLAW IN H.R. 4437

[Original posting in the Juan Mann Archive on VDARE.com]

The focus of VDARE.com is on immigration and the National Question. It's a noble endeavor, but I believe it represents only one component of a much greater problem.

The root of the evil: our apparent forced march toward a "comprehensive" New World Order of regional and ultimately global government, where nation-busting mass immigration is just one part of the process.

Though hardly a recent development, the excellent recent work by Jerome R. Corsi exposing the North American Union, the Amero currency, the NAFTA Superhighway and its Texas highway segment which is already underway —leaves little doubt that the collectivist, internationalist agenda of America's ruling elite continues full steam ahead whether the public likes it or not.

The late Dr. Sam Francis identified this danger.

Shortly after the Mohammedan jihadist attacks of September 11, 2001, Dr. Francis wrote that a "large bucket of cold reality has been splashed into my face" by a Chicago Council on Foreign Relations poll on elite vs. public attitudes concerning mass immigration. [10/24/02 - Poll Exposes Elite-Public Clash On Immigration]

Dr. Francis wrote:
"The [Summer 2002] poll shows that there is a vast gulf between the elite and the public at large on immigration, but more than anything it also shows that if the American majority that favors reducing mass immigration because they see it as a ‘critical threat to themselves and their nation really wants to meet that threat, then they must first remove from power the entire class of ‘leaders’ who are unable to perceive the dangers of immigration even when its dangerous consequences literally blow them out of their own skyscrapers."

Yes, America's ruling class already knows that America is being transformed by massive legal and illegal immigration. And they reply: so what?

They want it that way. They made the decision long ago.

The made-for-TV conflict between dueling immigration bills (S. 2611 and H.R. 4437) illustrates that the wishes of the American people —not to be transformed in their nation and displaced out of their livelihoods —only go so far in influencing the will of Congress.

In the U.S. Senate, the mass immigration fix is in. But in the people's House of Representatives, there is hope . . . well, at least a glimmer of hope.

But what should real immigration law enforcement fans be hoping for anyway?

As I have written before, one of the most critical components of the so-called "enforcement" provisions of H.R. 4437 is really a serious step backward for immigration law enforcement.

As I wrote (Michelle Malkin) in December, 2005:

H.R. 4437 undercuts the [Immigration Act Section 235(b) Expedited Removal] laws already on the books by scaling back the expedited removal authority granted (but never implemented) by Congress in 1996. The bill allows the summary removal of illegal aliens found within 100 miles of a land border within 14 days of entry. But in 1996 Congress previously authorized the removal of any [illegal] alien found anywhere in the U.S. within 2 years of entry!

So not only has there been a quiet rigging of the nationwide expedited removal provisions by successive administrations, but now the much-celebrated H.R. 4437 "enforcement" bill actually destroys the possibility of there ever being nationwide summary removal (outside of border areas).

And without the summary removal of illegal aliens —sending them packing without years of immigration litigation there will be no real immigration law enforcement in this country . . . because no one will be leaving anytime soon.

[ . . . Read the full story on VDARE.com]

[Michelle Malkin's Immigration Blog]

I couldn't agree with Michelle more. There is a huge disconnect between the American public and the political elites on this issue. Also, I believe that even though it is not the right option at the moment for there to be a massive removal of all illegals that removing a previous law that allowed that option (summary removal) would be unwise. Amnesty should not be an option. The American government would completely lose the respect of its citizens if it awarded illegal behavior with a privledge.

I would add that real enforcement of our immigration laws starts with stoping the bleeding (the daily flow of illegals into our country) and then taking care of the wound so that it can heal (enforcing the current laws on the books). Only then and only should we take preventive measures from letting the same injury occur again (reforming the laws to increase enforcement).

Why We Must Stay on Offense Against Terrorism.

AP Photo: Could this have been the next tragedy?

Well I hope this reminds Americans that the War on Terror is not over and is not something we can just let up on. Just today 7 individuals were indicted for plotting to blow up a FBI building in Miami and America's tallest building, the Sears Tower, in Chicago.

As posted previously, I have heard Rudy Giuliani speak on the War on Terror and he could not have put it better. Before 9/11, America was on defense against terrorism but now even after the shock of 9/11 fades we must continue to be on the offense. This should be proof alone that we must remain on offense or this could be the next tragedy...

Full article here...

WASHINGTON - A group of young men seized in a Miami warehouse have been charged in a federal indictment with conspiring with al-Qaida to "levy war against the United States" by committing acts of violence including blowing up Chicago's Sears Tower.

The seven individuals indicted by a federal grand jury were taken into custody Thursday when authorities swarmed the warehouse in the Liberty City area, removing a metal door with a blow torch. The indictment also alleges plans to blow a federal building in Miami in conjunction with the al-Qaida terrorist network.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and other top-level Bush administration officials scheduled a news conference for later Friday and a similar briefing was in Miami. The seven were expected to appear in court later Friday.

According to the indictment handed up Thursday, a young man identified as Narseal Batiste, beginning in November 2005, recruited and trained the others "for a mission to wage war against the United States government," including a plot to destroy the Sears Tower.

Update : Former Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge : "Terror war likely to last decades"

Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge, speaking at the opening of a new RAND Corp. office, said the war on terror is likely to last for decades, much like the Cold War.

"For every (Osama) bin Laden, there's a bin Laden wannabe. And for every al-Qaida, there's a like organization," Ridge said Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

"I don't know if anyone in the 1950s thought the Cold War would last close to half a century, but it did," Ridge said. "The challenge is global and it may take a generation or two or more to reduce."

Federal, state and local authorities now share more intelligence that they did before the attacks, but they will have to continue to improve to if they are to prevent future terrorism, Ridge said.

This is the war of our generation...When will America open its eyes?

AP Photo: Mayor Lou Barletta
Not in my city!

Hazleton, PA?!? Has anyone ever heard of Hazleton? I hadn't till today but now I will remember it as the city that had a Mayor dedicated to enforce the laws of his city, state, and country. While our national politicians can't come to an agreement on whether to enforce current immigration laws; Mayor Lou Barletta is doing what's right for his city and it's citizens.

Read more here...

HAZLETON, Pa. - With tensions rising and its police department and municipal budget stretched thin, this small northeastern Pennsylvania city is about to begin what the mayor calls one of the toughest crackdowns on illegal immigrants in the United States.

"Illegal immigrants are destroying the city," said Mayor Lou Barletta, a Republican. "I don't want them here, period."

Last week Barletta introduced, and the City Council tentatively approved, a measure that would revoke the business licenses of companies that employ illegal immigrants; impose $1,000 fines on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants; and make English the city's official language.

As Congress debates changes to the nation's immigration policy, some cities are taking matters into their own hands, saying they have no choice but to crack down on illegal immigrants themselves.

Thanks Mayor Lou! You are truly a great American.

Al Qaida Treasure Found!

(AP Photo) that piece of paper is al qaida's treasure?
It was annouced today that after a raid of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's hideout that Iraqi intelligence has found a "huge treasure."

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Iraq's national security adviser said Thursday a "huge treasure" of documents and computer records was seized after the raid on terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's hideout, giving the Iraqi government the upper hand in its fight against al-Qaida in Iraq.

National Security Adviser Mouwafak al-Rubaie also said he believed the security situation in the country would improve enough to allow a large number of U.S.-led forces to leave Iraq by the end of this year, and a majority to depart by the end of next year. "And maybe the last soldier will leave Iraq by mid-2008," he said.

Al-Rubaie said a laptop, flashdrive and other documents were found in the debris after the airstrike that killed the al-Qaida in Iraq leader last week outside Baqouba, and more information has been uncovered in raids of other insurgent hideouts since then.

He called it a "huge treasure ... a huge amount of information."

My favorite line of this article was when the reporter asked how he knew the information was authentic...the response "there is nothing more authentic then finding a thumb drive in his pocket."

Priceless.

It's About Time We Cracked Down On Immigrants.

This just in...

Operation Return to Sender

A swarm of federal immigration agents sped silently, headlights off, down a Boston side street early Wednesday and surrounded an apartment house.

"Police! Policia! Police!" yelled Daniel Monico, a deportation officer, holding his badge to a window where someone had pulled back the curtain. "Open the door!"

Moments later, agents led a dazed-looking Jose Ferreira Da Silva, 35, out in handcuffs. The Brazilian had been arrested in 2002 and deported, but had slipped back into the country. He now faces up to 20 years in prison.

In a blitz that began May 26, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested nearly 2,100 illegal immigrants across the country. Officials said the raids are aimed at child molesters, gang members and other violent criminals, as well as people like Da Silva who sneaked back into the country after a judge threw them out.

The crackdown is called Operation Return to Sender.

Thank you ICE and Homeland Security for making the news about illegal immigration enforcement.

Bad Politics: Why the Media Should Protect the Marine Corps Honor.

It is my understanding as an American that you are innocent until proven guilty. This is a precedent that is championed in the way our criminal system is setup. It is also prided throughout American society as the standard when these accusations arise.

So why does the media hold our American service men to a different standard?

Another idea championed in western thought is that what is evident of a small group is not necessary an accurate reflection of the whole group. Yet the media has portrays an isolated incident in Haditha to be telling of the whole Marine Corp.

Why is this wrong?

First, most people believe that the mission of America's service men, especially the Marines, is honorable. Most parents with a son or daughter in the service are proud of their children's sacrifice to this country. Why are we smearing our protectors of freedom in our own papers? This is appalling not to mention ungrateful.

I do not think that the behavior of those select individuals should be excused but the media does nothing to protect the Marine Corps dignity. No, instead they do publicity stunts and publish what is rumored to be a marine singing a song about the incident.

The media has a unique way of shaping public opinion. By publishing any rumor about misconduct in the military on the front page they are only advancing a left-winged mindset that putting on an American uniform is not honorable.

Not to mention, Imagine if you were a Marine manning a road block in Iraq and everyday you heard reports of men dying at these blocks. On top of the first reports you hear of front page newspaper and media reports of Marines being court marshaled and how dishonorable our military men are. I believe this would kill the motivation and moral of any person when they feel the reason they are risking their lives is to protect those people that are writing such reports.

Say No to Amnesty! How Dennis Hastert Plays Politics.

Tell them you want a long look.
Just in....Dennis Hastert to the rescue! The Speaker of the house made it clear that he wanted to take a "long look" at the Senate Immigration Bill.

Finally, the leadership's politics in the House are on par with the American people. I think it's about time that the conservatives came together to say no to the Senate's run of a muck immigration bill. I previously posted about the problems with this bill and I applaud the conservative leadership in the House for their initiative to take a detailed look at what is in the Senate's bill.

Hopes for a quick deal on an immigration bill were dealt a blow yesterday after House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert said he wanted to take a "long look" at a Senate bill offering potential citizenship to millions of illegal aliens.
Mr. Hastert, Illinois Republican, said hearings on the Senate bill should be held before appointing anyone to a House-Senate committee to negotiate the differences between the two chambers' bills. Later, he said he was unsure what the House's next move would be.
"We're going to take a long look at it," Mr. Hastert said last night.
House Majority Leader John A. Boehner agreed. "I think we should know clearly what's in the Senate bill," the Ohio Republican said, adding that there are many ways to understand its contents.

Pat Kennedy Pleads Guilty to DUI.

Just sad.
This just in...

Pat Kennedy pleads guilty to DUI of prescription drugs (via AP and Michelle Malkin).

It's about time a Kennedy was held accountable for their actions. Maybe, I'm off on this but I don't think I would want my House Representative to be entering drug rehab and hitting barriers infront of the Capitol Dome.

Al Gore's plans to train 1,000 missionaries for his cause to go about the country showing a version of his slideshow. Here's a short blurb on it...(via Reuters and Michelle Malkin)

NEW YORK (Reuters) -

Al Gore hopes to train 1,000 messengers he hopes will spread out across the country and present a slide show about global warming that captures the essence of his Hollywood documentary and book.

The former vice president, a Democrat, said on Monday that by the end of the summer he would start a bipartisan education campaign to train 1,000 people to give a version of his slide show on global warming featured in the film "An Inconvenient Truth" and book of the same name.

Why Securing the Mexican Border is a National Security Crisis.

Immigration continues to be a major issue currently in U.S. politics and rightfully so. President Bush and other Senators have offered what they call a comprehensive reform of the current immigration laws. One of the provisions is a new tamper proof id card that will ensure illegal aliens are exactly who they claim to be.

DO NOT BE FOOLED!

This President is not tough on immigration like he claims. The Bush's administration approved the use of an Mexican issued "Matricula Consular" id card for illegals in America back after the wake of 9/11.

Why? Because the money that open-border banks make off these illegals.

This may seem easily answerable but the recent Washington Times article shows us why this is not just a made up National Security Crisis.

The Department of Homeland Security allowed a man to enter its headquarters last week using a fake Matricula Consular card as identification, despite federal rules that say the Mexican-issued card is not valid ID at government buildings.
Bruce DeCell, a retired New York City police officer, used his phony card -- which lists his place of birth as "Tijuana, B.C." and his address as "123 Fraud Blvd." on an incorrectly spelled "Staton Island, N.Y." -- to enter the building Wednesday for a meeting with DHS officials.
Mr. DeCell said he has had the card for four years and has used it again and again to board airliners and enter government buildings, without being turned down once. But he said he was surprised that DHS, the agency in charge of determining secure IDs, accepted it.
"Obviously, it's not working," Mr. DeCell said.
The Mexican government has issued millions of Matricula Consular cards in the past few years, mostly to give illegal aliens a form of identification that banks and other institutions will accept.

Why is America accepting Mexican issued id cards for people illegal in our country?

Imagine if this was a terrorist. Is that easy for an illegal alien to walk into our government buildings? Let alone the one that's sole purpose is to protect our homeland.

Democrats at it again: Trying to turn football into futbol.

Well it should not be a surprise that the Dems are going after Hispanic votes. They will do anything as shown below anything to get votes.

They have stationed their front at the upcoming World Cup.

They make claims that Bush's plan does not go far enough with amnesty. The American public has made it clear they DO NOT want any sort of amnesty bill. But the democrats don't seem to care about the American public's view. Look at what they are proposing and then the public's view.

I can't help to say that the Democrats and Ms. Pelosi need to put their shoes back on and get in touch with the American people. Legal immigrants are the ones most adamant about illegals not having to work through the current immigration system.

If the Democrats want to court Hispanics through soccer. Go ahead! Hispanics like other groups vote on issues that are most important to them. The Democrats actually lost ground in the 2004 elections when an unprecedented 40% of Hispanics voted for Bush.

Why? Because family and religion are the most important values to Hispanics and most hold conservative values in regard to them.

Do not be fooled though if you are Hispanic. The democrats merely want the 12 million votes from illegal immigrants. Learn from how the party has treated African Americans by promising to represent their group and giving them little to no voice inside the party.

I believe most any American, Hispanic or not, believes that securing our nations border should be the Congress' #1 priority before any talks about a temporary worker program are done. The borders must be secure before so that we can stop the stream of undocumented immigrants into the country.

May 2006 : The month McCain fumbled another GOP nomination.

It seems like a GOP Presidential nomination is not John McCain's best sport. Sure he is a prominent Senator and polls have showed before that he is a popular political figure.

So why wouldn't you want John McCain to be President?

Well, for anybody that has study politics or is in the business today, you know to win a Presidential bid that you must cater to your base. Sure there is nothing wrong with being a moderate like John McCain but you must show your base that you stand with them on their core issues. This is where John McCain fumbles and the month of May was full of John McCain fumbles.

He started the month out giving graduation speeches at both the most conservative and most liberal of campuses. Sure the GOP base likes that you gave a speech at Liberty but that will fade in their minds. In politics, the American people do not count how many things you did right; They count how many mistakes you've made.

Currently, the biggest issue to conservatives is illegal immigration. Conservatives just like myself feel that immigration is a national security issue and that people that break our nation's laws should not be rewarded.

What is John McCain's response to dissent on any sort of amnesty bill?

"What next -- are we going to say work-authorized immigrants are going to have to ride in the back of the bus?"

Fumble! This is only the first of many blunders in John McCain's bad month of May.

So the questions I wonder are...

What are you doing Johnny? We all thought you wanted the GOP nomination.

Are you really a conservative? I hope the Republican party will not stand for another "masked" conservative like George W. Bush.

Not a Good Day to be a Terrorist!

First, let me hand it to America's military for their superb execution on finding and killing the most wanted terrorist in the world.

Second, let me hand it to Isreal's military for their superb execution on killing the second most wanted terrorist in the world.

Everyone that has a TV was sure to learn about the first of these two victories but the 2nd one came later and under the radar. I learned about it from a blog I read often. You can see Michelle Malkin's post by clicking below...

Another One Bites The Dust

Of course with anything in politics you have dissent which is a good thing. But boy did Congressman Pete Stark pick the wrong day to come after the President. The Democratic Representative from California called this a "political game" to take attention of the President's poll numbers.

WHAT?!? I mean we just killed a man that has been terrorizing Iraq and our men and women in uniform for years and your statement in the newspaper is "political game."

I pray the military men in his district do not see that. Or if they do they raise some questions of whether they have the right man in office.

Ok. So #1 down and on to #2. Wait...#2 down also.

Jamal Abu Samhadana - Killed by an Israeli Airstrike earlier today.

Definitely not a good day to be a terrorist.

Unite08 - An Unrealistic Political Opportunist's Favorite Third Party.

Again, history is on the path to repeat itself in American Politics. It seems like for 2 different reasons America's citizens have felt the need for a third party in politics. Either they believe in one or two political issues that they feel are not given a big enough role in either of the two big parties platforms or they don't believe in anything and are annoyed with how democracy and debate work to solve political issues in society.

The green movement in American politics showed that the first of the reasons for forming a political third party actually are useful way of having an impact on politics. The main reason the American political system has only two parties is the ballot setup and how political elections are won. As we all know, it takes a majority or 51% of the vote to win most elections in politics and 51% of the state's citizens votes to win all of the state's electoral college votes.

The majority system in politics pits two candidates against each other and gives no incentives for only winning 15% of the votes. The contrast to the American political system is Great Britain, which has a proportional system. Because of this system, politics in Great Britain are different at their core from American politics. In a proportional political system, if there are 10 seats available and a political party wins 20% of the vote then they win 2 seats out of 10. I'm sure you can imagine how this influences the whole art and strategy of politics in this system.

Ok so what is unity and what do they have to do with all of this?

Unity08 on the surface is trying to sell itself as the party of the people and uses polls and catchy marketing to try to convince people to join their cause. They are a wannabe third party that has no core issue(s) that are not covered by the two major parties. They actually claim that they take on the more crucial issues rather than the somewhat important issues that don't actually affect people.

They show base for their support by citing a polls that show the American public agrees with some things that are totally unrelated to a third party in politics. Things such as dissatisfaction with the way the country is headed and polarizaton. Also they polled on hypothetical questions of a different unity ticket and probably asked whether they agree or disagree with the idea. Good political pollsters know that people are always more likely to agree on any question when given the choice.

Ok now what do they have to do with third party politics? Well technically, they claim they do not want to be a third party. No No....They want to influence the big 2 political parties by giving them a wake up call. Oh it gets much better than this. They seem to contradict themselves a lot. They don't want to leave their political parties but they want a moderate candidate or one person from each big political party to join together and run under their ticket.

So on some of their crucial political issues of national debt, nuclear proliferation, health care for all, and the disappearance of the American Dream they just want one candidate from each party to come together and run?

Ok Ok....Slow me down if I am wrong about this but is their differences on how to go about these issues what makes America the model democratic republic? Did our founding fathers not set our political system up with just that clash and debate?

I feel like I am under the Capitol Dome looking at the painting of Thomas Jefferson apparently stepping on John Adams toe and unity asking Mr. Jefferson if they could shake him up and then to embrace Mr. Adams like his political best friend. The political founding fathers setup the American system on the ideals of Newtonian physics where 2 political parties would both butt heads and the equal opposite reaction would end in a balance.

You cannot expect to take bits and pieces from each different approach given by the major parties, throw them into a blender and out comes the perfect solution. Most moderates in politics today hold views on political issues that are held by both political parties. However, they are affiliated with a certain political party because they believe in their core platform.

Finally, if unity08 plans to have one prominent member from each party on their presidential ticket for the 2008 political elections then how do they decide which party holds the President and which one holds the Vice President. I feel like I shouldn't need to say this but unity08 makes it out like they do not see the huge difference in power between those two political offices.

So my final thought is this...The main founders and backers of unity08 are in this thing for exactly one reason. *Drumroll* MONEY. Plain and simple. Unity08 said they are seeking an advisory council from the FEC to see if they can be considered not a political committee. This means they do not want to be bound to FEC rules. Also nothing states that they are a non-profit and therefore I have to wonder whether they are not just a for-profit company.

Finally, one of the main founders bio on their webpage states this...

"Hamilton Jordan, Atlanta, Georgia. Carter White House Chief of Staff, writer, investor; focused on for-profit and non-profit start-ups; most importantly, father of three."

This could mean nothing but it sure sticks out...investor;...for-profit and non-profit start-ups. Also, most of these former political people would not have wasted their time on this if they couldn't control the cut they'll make as consultants for unity08.

hmmm...This thing smells of scam and unrealistic dreams that not only contradict the founding fathers political setup for America but are also bad for America. The 2 party system is and will always be the best system for America. Does America need political advocates and higher citizen engagement? Of course! Conflict and honest debate is the best path to the perfect solution.

So to end let me say, unity08, no thanks.

Rudy Giuliani for President in 2008?

Seems like the Giuliani train has picked up steam as of late. As candidates and news coverage starts to pick up on the 06' midterm elections and the little farther out 08' elections.

Formally, the former Mayor of New York City has not decided or announced a run for President. But it only takes a small look at his recent travel stops to see that he is setting himself up perfectly to make a run for the GOP nomination. Giuliani has been going state to state to help GOP Congressmen and local elected officials raise money.

I recently had the honor of attending one of these events and meeting the Mayor face to face. At the luncheon "America's Mayor," as he was introduced, focused on two things; reducing the national debt with tax cuts and fiscal responsibility and staying on the offense on the war on terror.

As a conservative, these issues could not have been hit closer to home. I believe Mayor Rudy Giuliani is a true conservative with core conservative values. The national debt is going to become a huge problem in the near future and the man to take on this is Giuliani.

As Mayor, he brought New York City out of debt and into a surplus. He used this surplus for a tax cut that increased more revenue in taxes then if he had raised taxes. Not to mention, Giuliani is a leader in reducing crime and increasing security in New York and many other places in the U.S. That is exactly what his firm Giuliani Partners has been doing the past 6 years.

Here is a good article with more details on Giuliani and his possible path for '08.

If He Runs, Don't Bet Against Rudy - Richard Baehr, American Thinker

As a prior post linked to an article on the straw poll that showed Giuliani was more favorable then the other potential presidential candidates. His numbers in the poll were - average
63.5, with Republicans giving him a 73.5; Democrats 57.5 and independents 61.1.

Not only is America's Mayor the hottest candidate; as far as conservatives can tell he is the right candidate to restore conservative values and the right candidate for our nation.

I have also added a poll to the upper left column for anybody that wants to vote on their '08 Presidential favorite.

Please keep coming back and checking up as I will continue to update regularly.

Man when did the Senate go on vacation...

When did they go on vacation and when can we have the old Senate I remember with a long history of top political intellectuals. Also, why does it take the news media almost 2 weeks to pick up on something as concrete as this. Sad truth is that I doubt have the Senators, media, and American public know what the problem was if it was staring at them in the face.

What am I talking about?

I hate to annoy my readers by bringing up that horrendous Senate Immigration bill but this is just incredible. In the bill there was a movement for all illegals to have to pay back taxes to the IRS to become eligible for the temporary guest worker program. The problem with this is that the bill is making a movement to collect revenue or tax. It is unconstitutional for the Senate to write a bill that collects revenue; They must come from the House. This is the problem that Congress will face before the joint conference committee.

First take a look at this article that tells you how the leadership of both parties view this...

Illegals' tax deal could kill bill - by Charles hurt

Most supporters believe this will kill the bill. Frist says the simple solution is to add it to a tax bill that has already passed the Senate. Reid of course says that he will not allow this because the concerns of Frist about the bill are
"technical in nature." Now what he really is saying is that he knows that a "blue-slip" will be offered by a House member which will send the bill back to the Senate. Why? because it's the House's job to uphold the Constitution. Reid knows this would make the Republicans look unfit to run the Congress.

Nice try Mr. Reid but please...that is busch league.

The bill will most likely die which in my opinion is good. I thought the bill was horrible as mentioned in an early post. I think it will die because I believe that conservatives in the House and the majority leader are in touch with the American public. They cannot introduce a bill that is an shadow amnesty bill.

Another thing that bothers me about this recent discover is the fact that this was another action that flew under the radar of the media. Honestly, I think it was done intentionally to pass a stealth provision to the bill. Well it definitely worked for awhile. At least well enough to pass by the 100 Senators. Thank the lord the members in the House analyzed this bill and caught the problem before conference committee.

Check out Robert Novak's article on the provision.

06/08' election projections.

I don't mean to continue to harp on the Immigration issue but it seems to be the hottest issue with the American public. Many consultants believe this will be the main issue that will define the 2006 midterm elections. I could not agree more with them. This article from the Washington Times gives you the latest on this. What are you thinking McCain?

Immigration shapes congressional races - by Charles Hurt - Washington Times

Well everyone knew that McCain would get some backlash for his stance on immigration. Now it shows that people do care about what the government is going to about illegal immigration.

This article was released today and is a thermometer survey. They show that Giuliani is becoming a frontrunner and McCain is cooling off. I definitely think this is related to McCain's latests blunders with graduation speeches and the Senate bill.

Giuliani, McCain Are Hottest Presidential Candidates...

As always I'll keep you posted on my comments on the latest editorials...

Should English Be The Official Language?

This debate has risen in media coverage and people's minds as all American's debate whether illegal immigrants should have a path to citizenship and what should be required if they are given this privilege.

Personally, I have a hard time understanding why english shouldn't be the nations official language. In most arguments, I like to hear all perspectives and try to empathize with them. Still however, I don't see why this is a bad policy.

Is making english an official language racist as Harry Reid said before?

I have a hard time calling this policy racist. If it is racist then almost every other country in the world are racists too. But that doesn't prove whether it's racist or not.

The main reason I think that this is a no-brainer is the simple fact that are founding documents and current government documents are written in english. Really to read and know your rights you have to understand english. If a police officer arrests you; They read you your miranda rights in english.

Will making english an official language alienate certain ethnic groups?

No way! I think it will actually do the opposite in the long run. The main divide and cause for tension between non-english speaking Americans and english speaking Americans is just that. Look at the divides in Canada between the French Canadians and english speaking Canadians. Making english the official language would ease some of this tension and give the ability of every American to communicate and articulate arguments.

Here is a great article on this topic.

A couple of great editorials.

After spending a weekend at the NCGOP Convention, I am now back and ready for my next post. I was surfing around the internet and of course as a good conservative I always like to check out the editorials. I guess that's something that anyone who loves politics would do.

The first one is our great buddy Al Gore. Promoting his new book...check this one out. If anything it's worth the laugh. But before giving you the link I'll leave you with a funny age old rumor/quote but still completely hilarious. "I invented the internet!"

Al Gore's telling whoppers again

This one is more on the serious side and has to do with Bush failing to protect the nation. I don't know if I completely agree with the idea that he has no idea how to protect the homeland but I definitely think there are examples and areas where he is not doing the job. Not to beat a dead horse by referring to the last post but not securing the borders is a national security crisis.

Bush has no clue how to protect the homeland

I'll end with this last one for now. This editorial talks about how the liberals in America need to get on board with fighting terrorism. I cannot agree with this more. Yes, there are differences in the two parties and of course they shouldn't agree on every issue. But to deny or not see that terrorism is a real danger IS a national security issue. Check this editorial out.

Liberals Need New Narrative That Takes Terrorism Seriously
